Rules to live by
It's always a good idea to set yourself some rules to live by. By rules, I mean
things you would be willing to do and do them that way and things you won't do
and will never do.
My personal top 7 rules which have helped me in life and I hope will help you
are:
1. Don't talk too much.
This rule speaks for itself. It's always good to talk, don't get me wrong, but
never reveal too much. Your enemies are always on the look out for information
that can hurt you, so let them do the talking while you listen. Remember that
information is power and power can destroy. If you don't have anything smart
to say it's always best not to say anything at all.
2- Always keep your word.
Your word should never be broken. You should always keep your promises. Remember
that when someone loses trust in you is the minute you lose them.
3- Be prepared to do the work you tell others to do.
Don't make the people under you do things you are not willing to do. If you
are a leader, then lead by example. This is one of the most important rules
I live by. In my line of job, even though I don't have to, I always make sure
I am able to do something I delegate to others. If they get it wrong I can then
get it right.
4- Always carry cash
Lets face it, when you have cash in your hands, there are no maybes. A check
can always bounce, a credit card can always be declined but cash is always cash.
Money talks and you need cash to talk!
5- Never take decisions when you are angry.
When you are angry you can't think right and you need a clear head to think
right. More often than not when a person is angry they tend to make threats
they can't deliver or decisions they regret.
6- Don't play by the rules
If you really want to get somewhere in life it may mean you have to bend the
rules or even break them in some situations. So don't be scared to break a few
rules.
7. Make sure your enemies fear you.
Respect is good but fear is better. Remember your enemies fear you when they
don't know what to expect from you, so never be predictable.
